ITEC-50093 - 21st Century Skills and Technology, Information and Media Literacies - Spring 2012

Description: This workshop enabled students to "explore the convergence of 21st century skills with technology, information and media literacies. Participants investigate ways that these new literacies can help transform learning. A collection of technology-enhanced strategies and lessons is developed to help students achieve content standards and become competent in 21st century skills. " (Spring 2012 Education Workshops)

Reflection: I signed up for this workshop to learn more about ISTE NETS for Students and Teachers. My opinion is that this workshop is valuable, but basic. I feel that I learned much more pertaining to this area while attending ITEC-57430 - Computer Applications in Education and ITEC-57427 - Technology and Learning.

Artifacts: Syllabus

  1. Cacoo Tool Analysis - This project incorporated a template to use for completing a basic analysis on a technology tool of choice. The Zoho Review project I created during ITEC-57427 - Technology and Learning was way more advanced and taught me much more.
  2. Website Design Lesson Plan - Because I completed my tool analysis for this class on Cacoo, I wanted to create the lesson plan around that particular tool. This project also incorporated a template to use for completing it. I feel that I learned more pertaining to the creation of lesson plans while attending ITEC-57430 - Computer Applications in Education.

ITEC-57430 - Computer Applications in Education - Spring 2012

Description: "In this course, students discuss topics related to the use of technology in education including technology integration, 21st century skills, mobile learning, and ubiquitous computing. Students are introduced to networking terminology and create instructional materials such as web-based narrated videos, hyperlinked documents to scaffold learning, informational flyers, lessons using online databases or digital libraries, and simple electronic portfolios. Students work in groups to create a 'Technology Day' for a real or imaginary school and identify ways technology tools can be used to facilitate and support various instructional strategies." (Instructional Technology Course Descriptions)

Reflection: This course promoted student inquiry and taught me how to incorporate technology into lesson plans in ways I would have never thought of. I have never even created a lesson plan until taking this class, therefore I had to research how one would set up a lesson plan. One of the projects I created was a lesson plan ( Creating Basic Web Page Using HTML) that incorporated student use of screen recording software. This particular project flipped the role of screen recording software in the classroom. Usually it is the instructor who records what he or she is doing on their computers to explain a concept. Although I only included final course projects under some of the classes listed on this page, I feet that all of the projects I completed in this class are important, as well as some of my best work. Therefore, I included tham all.

Artifacts: Syllabus

  1. Instructional Recordings and Student Reflection - This project focused on creating a lesson plan that incorporated student use of screen writing software.
  2. Technology Integration and Educational Psychology - This project focused on creating two lesson plans that incorported new cutting edge technology.
  3. Technology and Assessment - Online Discussion Evaluations - This was by far my favorite project. We formed groups of four that took on the role of the instructor by working together to create four discussion topics that centered on a particular subject. The discussion we came up with were presented to the class during our designated week. Each member facilitated one of the four discussion topics and evaluated each students' contribution to the discussion by grading them on a list of criteria. This was a great experience for me. I created a score sheet for our group to use when evaluating student participation. My particular discussion topic was titled "Online Technology Tools for Teachers." I chose this topic in hopes that students would share resources available to teachers. At the end of the discussion, I compiled a list of all tools shared by the students and then gave them copies.
  4. Technology and Student Research - Instructional Databases - This project focused on creating a lesson for database exploration.
  5. Final Project - Student Portfolios - The focus of this project was to create a master ePortfolio template detailing what is required for each page that can be used by students. A completed student sample was also required and you are viewing it now..

TECH-50000 - Quality Standards - Spring 2011

Description: "This course introduces students to issues in quality standards, quality assurance and statistical inference in applied technology and process control. Topics include systems reliability, quality control, SPC, control charts, principles and methods of statistical analysis and prediction, and hypothesis testing." (Graduate Technology)

Reflection: I have to admit that this was one of the hardest courses I have taken. The instructor included a grade histogram within the class portal. This histogram showed the range of scores, as well as how many instances of each, based on all members of the class. Student names were not shown. At the end of the course, the histogram showed only one instance of the highest score which matched my final grade. Although I completed many projects in this class, which taught us how to create and use a variety of charts in Microsoft Excel, I decided to include only my final project. This particular project involved the highest level of critical thinking and problem-solving techniques. I really surprised myself in this class. Taking it showed me what I am capable of.

Artifacts: Syllabus

Case Study 12.2 – Quality Costs - This is my final project for this course. Of all the projects I completed for this class, I decided to include only this one because it reflects all that I have learned by taking this class.

Final Grade: A

TECH-60078 - Research in Technology - Fall 2010

Description: This focus of this course is on "research techniques for the technologist. Methods for designing, conducting, analyzing and interpreting results of technological research." (Graduate Technology)

Reflection: I learned a lot in this class in terms of research. The major requirement for this class was a semester-long research proposal that served as the final project.

Artifacts: Syllabus

Research Proposal: Search Engine Optimization and a Successful Web Site - My final project for this class is based on a proposal for a study of how implementing search engine optimization practices and techniques during the development and ongoing maintenance of a website is a key factor In Its overall success. As a website developer, it is important to understand what makes a website rank high in the search engines. The topic of search engine optimization was a perfect choice for this project.

Final Grade: A

ITEC-57427 - Technology and Learning - Fall 2011

Description: "The focus of this course is on analyzing, critiquing, discussing, and developing learner-centered, curriculum-based instruction that uses technology in meaningful ways. Students will complete an in-depth investigation of a technology tool, and share their knowledge and use of the tool with others in the class. Students will also investigate several technology-related educational issues such as technology integration models, safety and health, copyright, evaluation of web resources, assessment, and assistive technologies. " (Instructional Technology Course Descriptions)

Reflection: This was a great class! We explored free technology tools for teachers offered online. This class also incorporated a semester-long final project that consisted of creating a website that analyzed a particular tool of choice.

Artifacts: Syllabus

Zoho Review - For my final project, I chose to analyze Zoho Show, which is only one free application offered by Zoho.com. Zoho Show is like Microsoft PowerPoint. I feel that my completed project can be a great tool for teachers who are considering the use of Zoho Show in their classrooms. My analysis explains Zoho Show in its entirety.

Final Grade: A

TECH-56321 - Web Database Integration - Spring 2011

Description: This is a "laboratory course focused on integrating data sources into web sites. Current topics include server-side processing principles, web forms, database programming objects and Structured Query Language." (Graduate Technology)

Reflection: Had I known I would be taking this course on the graduate level, I would not have taken it on the undergraduate level when working on my bachelor's degree. To be honest, I did not learn any more in this class on the graduate level than I did on the undergraduate level.

Artifacts: Syllabus

I have no projects to link here because they were not hosted on the Internet. Reason being, a Windows Server with ASP installed is needed to view the files correctly in a browser. That was not available for this particular class. All projects were emailed to the instructor, who then viewed them on her own computer that had a testing server installed. The instructor would then email us back our grades.

Final Grade: A

ITEC-67437 - Web Development for Educators - Fall 2011

Description: "This course examines Web design principles. Students develop sites with a standard Web development application. The course features hands-on tutorial exercises in Web page authoring and includes the completion of culminating Website projects." (Instructional Technology Course Descriptions)

Reflection: I had enrolled in this class hoping to learn more about web development , especially in terms of instructor sites. Particularly those that incorporated a course management system. However, it turned out that this particular class taught basic XHTML and CSS for creating websites. I should have read the course descriptions instead of assuming that this class pertained to more. By the time the instructor and I both realized that I didn't really need this class, it was too late to drop and pick up a different class. All the other classes available to me were full. Regardless, this class turned out to be well worth it. The instructor allowed me to create my own culminating project based on what I wanted to learn. I had already started researching HTML5 and CSS3 on my own and decided to base my project on creating a full-blown instructor website using the new HTML5 syntax and CSS3 style.

Artifacts: I am not including the syllabus since it did not pertain to me.

Introduction to HTML5 and CSS3 - This project is based on my learning HTML5 and CSS3 by creating an instructor website using HTML5 and CSS3 that teaches HTML5 and CSS3. Please read my culminating project plans before viewing the final project.
