Your Digital Footprint: An Awarness Campaign Webquest

This Webquest was created for an assignment for the "Instructional Applications of the Internet" course. It aims to teach high school students about digital footprints, including how a digital footprint is created, how a digital footprint can affect them, what makes a positive or negative digital footprint, and how to monitor their own digital footprint. It involves an interactive assignment in which students are placed in groups and directed to various online resources in order to research issues surrounding both positive and negative aspects of digital footprints, as well as how to research their own. The end result is the collaborated creation of a digital footprint awareness poster that will be placed in the school's lobby so that all those entering or leaving the school will see it. This Webquest Website addresses standards 1(a) - Promotes, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness, 1(b) - engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digitl tools and resources, and 1(d) - model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students in face-to-face and virtual environemnts.

All About Infographics Internet Project

This project was created for the "Instructional Applications of the Internet" course which focused on developing an online instructional unit that uses an online tool with students, tests the effectiveness of an online approach, etc. The project could have been be a traditional Website, a Blog site, a Wiki or any type of Web 2.0 tool. I chose to create a traditional Website that covered as much information as possible pertaining to infographics, as well as the various online tools used to create them. This informational Website explains what an infographic is and lists many types of inforgraphics that one can create with examples to boot. There is also a section which lists twenty of the most popular tools used to create different types infographics. This sections also includes examples (many of which I created myself) and links to tutorials. There is also a section with links to data sources that can be used to create infographics. This project addresses standards 1(a) - Promotes, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness and 1(b) - engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digitl tools and resources.

Technology and Student Research - Instructional Databases - Endangered Species Lesson

This project was created for an assignment in the "Computer Applications in Education" course which focused on creating a lesson that utilizes online databases for student exploration. By completing this lesson students will learn how to use an inquiry based approach to understand the factors influencing the endangerment and extinction of species worldwide. Students will be sensitized to the plight of endangered species around the world, emphasizing the value of species and environmental ethics, as well as gain appreciation for the complex socio-political nature of endangered species conservation. Students will have improved their computer skills and research abilities through online database exploration. Students will also be provided with the knowledge necessary to make educated decisions about biodiversity concerns, for example, when voting in elections or when making purchases of products that may impact endangered species. The end result is the individual student creation of an endangered specie fact sheet. This project addresses standards 1(a) - Promotes, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness, 1(b) - engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digitl tools and resources, and 1(c) - promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.

Endangered Species Online Lesson

This project was created for an assignment in the "Teaching Online Courses" course and takes the "Endangered Species Lesson" mentioned above even further by changing it so that it is totally online. Being totally online makes this lesson very self-contained and one that a student can become totally engaged in. Instead of creating a hardcopy fact sheet, this version includes an online form that provides an easy way for students to submit their answers. Once students submit their answers they are included in the "Your Findings" section of the website. Making those answers available to everyone expands the learning opportunities. This Website was created using Dreamweaver. This project addresses standards 1(a) - Promotes, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness, 1(b) - engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digitl tools and resources, and 1(c) - promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes, and 1(d) - model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students in face-to-face and virtual environemnts.

Instructional Recordings and Student Reflection Lesson

This lesson plan was created for the "Computer Applications in Education" course and covers the topic of creating a basic webpage using HTML. The purpose of this particular lesson is to identify how video recordings can be used to promote student reflection and verify that that student understands key instructional objectives. A student sample is provided. This project addresses standards 1(b) - engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digitl tools and resources, and 1(c) - promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.
