My Tips, Strategies, and Techniques

The following are my ideas of strategies and techniques I will use when teaching in an online environment. More of my ideas can be found throughout the pages of this toolkit. Because this toolkit is a resource I will use repeatedly in the future, I will most likely add more tips, strategies, and techniques to this list as I am presented with them.

Assessment and Feedback - The following are tools I will use for assessment and feedback

  • Email
  • Weekly announcements
  • Rubrics
  • Peer evaluations

Assignment Reflections - I will most likely require that students write a reflection of each completed project.

Course Closing Activities - The following are ideas for course closing activities.

  • Course Reflection Paper
  • Instructor Evaluation
  • Discussion Topic - Tips for the Teacher

Course Website - If creating my own course website from scratch, I would do the following:

  • Create a friendly navigatgional system that will make content easily found and prevent students from getting lost within the pages
  • Create multiple formats of directm instruction
  • Maintain consistency
  • Practice ADA compliancy
  • Include a "Policies and Guidelines" section that lists each policy and guideline separately with links to downloadable pdf documents of the same information for printing
  • Include a webpage that shows the course calendar and includes a link to a downloadable pdf document of the same information for printing
  • Include a webpage that lists all assignments for the semester, as well as their due dates, and a link to a downloadable pdf document of the same information for printing
  • Include a webpage that shows syllabus information and a link to a downloadable pdf document of the same information for printing
  • If not using a course management system I will utilize the form method for submitting assignments, as well as contacting me by email to make completing these tasks as easy as possible on the student. I call this "Less Steps to Success."

Discussion Forums - I'd like to use discussion forums for student introductions, help topics and questions, and student suggestions for the teacher.
